Feedback/Questions Received: Our Response:
"Will you be adding the 2010 San Francisco World Spirits Competition medal winners?" We plan to incorporate the 2010 results as well as the medal results for future years. This update to the app series is scheduled to happen once we have all 5 spirit apps available to you on the app store. Our present development efforts are shared between getting all the apps available to you as well as refining the current ones available.
"What does ABV and PROOF mean?" ABV stands for Alcohol by Volume. This is the percentage of alcohol in a bottle of spirits. Proof is the same as ABV but is twice the amount. Some manufacturers refer to the alcohol content as proof and others as percentage by volume. So a 100 proof spirit is 50% ABV and has more alcohol than an 80 proof/40% ABV spirit.
"The label I suggested was not in the recent release. What's up with that?" We appreciate all the label suggestions we receive from our user base and we hope that our users consider sending new label suggestions our way. Every new label suggestion we receive, we catalog into our list for new label releases and we try to get as many as possible included in the following release. We treat user suggested labels with the highest priority. Whether the new labels are released or not within an update is dependent on us assembling the information and imagery in time. Some labels are easier to document than others. If a label you suggested did not show up immediately, know that we are researching it.
"Should I send the same suggestions more than once?" No. We document each and every suggestion and correction we receive. We often receive duplicates. The world of spirits is vast and everchanging and we want to make sure we have what our users want. Each user suggestion gets "special treatment" and moved to the top of the list. We will try to get suggested labels out as quick as possible but at times, it may take a while to get all the label information collected and to get high quality bottle imagery. Please be patient if you did not find the label you have suggested in a recent release...it will be released as soon as the information is collected and after the label card is complete.
"Is there an option to update the database when I want to?" No. The database used in the app is "offline" meaning it is stored within the app and not on a remote server. This allows you to access all information much more quickly and you are not at the mercy of server feeds - which ensures the best user experience possible. Updates to the database come with each update of the app...so be sure to check for appstore updates regularly. Perhaps in the future...realtime database updating will be integrated (wink-wink).
"Please provide links to buy spirits." We do not have plans to provide links to buy the spirits in our apps. Due to the vast amount of issues such as complex taxing, licensing, governmental oversight, shipping restrictions and age restrictions on the sale of alcohol...coupled with the fact that the Connoisseur line of apps is available on an international scale...the integration of purchasing liquor has been deemed by us to be unfeasible within our apps at this time.
"The ratings should be 5 stars instead of 4." Due to the compact nature of the device and the limited space on the screen, we have elected to use a 4 star rating scale instead of a 5 star scale. There are no plans at this time to modify this.
"Why not combine Whiskey and Scotch?" We elected to break these spirit genres because of their distinctive differences in production and style and the vast size of the whisk(e)y spirit genre type. The spirits have differences in how they are produced and aged as well as the obvious regional differences. We felt that Scotch Connoisseurs may desire an app more tailored to their whisky of choice where Bourbon Whiskey Connoisseurs might have other preferences. This break in types also allows us to keep the pricing and database scale in line with the other apps in the series as well as provide unique features within each app tailored to that genre type.
"We are waiting for the Tequila App!" We are anxiously awaiting this app's arrival too (we use and love our spirit apps just as much as all of you).
We plan to release this app as soon as possible and will be the fifth release in the series.
Look for it late 2010.
"Will the next update be safe or will I need to re-download the app?" Our periodically planned updates will require a free version update download from the app store via iTunes. This update will be seamless and will update any new or modified features and will not require a fresh install of the app or a new purchase of the app. Your personal data should port over to the new version with no issues.
"What about Connoisseur for iPad?" This would be great...but our focus presently is to prepare the iPhone and iPod versions. Stay tuned!
However, the current versions of the Spirit Connoisseur collection will function properly on an iPad...as do virtually all iPhone/iPod apps.
